Facts John Healy published his autobiography, The Grass Arena, based on his life as an alcoholic vagrant and subsequent conversion to professional chess player, to great acclaim in 1988. The book was translated throughout Europe and subsequently made into a film. Between them, the book and film have received over a dozen major national and international awards.
